If you believe the retailers in the UK and the US, Christmas was setting in as early as September. Hoardings and TV adverts would scream at us exhorting us to take advantage of the "Early Christmas" Sale.

I guess by the time we hit Christmas, the fun would be gone and all that would be left is a huge hangover from overspending on our credit cards !

Are we run by the newspapers ? Why do we get hooked to something that is so obviously a media frenzy ? I found myself checking over and over again on the transfer saga of Beckham. It was so clear that a lot of the saga was a staged act and rumours thrown in to make the piece interesting. If that was not all, I am constantly checking the updates on BigBrother. To be honest, none of the housemates are any interesting and yet, I find myself clamouring to find out the latest on the web. And I am not alone. There are dozens out there who not only constantly watch the show but join in the community discussions about housemates. This is so unreal. It is as if the fun and zest have gone out of our lives and has been replaced by the stream of media trash that we guzzle up like the elixir of life. Do we need to kill the TV, the Newspapers and the web too ? I think we need a systemic cure to find ourselves again. I see so many bloggers, so many people hooked on chats, others glued to television and playstations -- it tells me what I have suspected a long time now. The biggest issue with the current generation is that they are both cynical and lonely - and we find these media alternatives a crutch on which we lead the life.
